BURRUSS HALL
Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA
Partial Roof Replacement Project
Burruss Hall is the main administration building on the Virginia Tech campus housing the University President and numerous Vice President’s Offices. The project consisted of the complete removal of the existing Built-up and Ballasted Single-ply Membrane roof systems at thirteen roof levels and replacement with a new 20-year warranted, fully-adhered 0.060” EPDM roof system (adhered with low rise polyurethane spray foam over the existing structural concrete roof decks) incorporating new 1/4” per foot tapered polyiso insulation and 1/2” thick glass-faced gypsum recovery board for proper roof drainage and superior wind uplift resistance. The design also included new metal wall caps, emergency overflow scuppers, and fall protection attachment bollards. Mike Cornett, PE, RRC, President also provided full-time quality assurance observations (QAO) during the entire construction of the roof replacement project.
